CalendarHut is currently in beta testing. Looking to add a quick reminder for a reservation? Okay, sure, but first, choose between adding an event or a task. Is there a difference? Not really, except event might give you some extra cool looking buttons. Hey look there’s a “more options” button— okay now that’s just an entire page of even more buttons. Whoa there’s an “all day” notification toggle, that’s genius! If I just have the notification running all the time, I won’t ever forget about it! Someone should add an all week toggle, or an all month one, hell maybe even an all year one. Innovation at its finest right here. Oh look Google looked through my emails, found my flight information, and added it to the calendar without me asking… that’s… nice… oh the times are wrong anyway.

Introducing: CalendarHut

CalendarHut is a fresh approach to scheduling and productivity management, combining the simplicity of traditional paper calendars (pin a thing on a date and be done with it) with the optional sophistication of more modern and capable scheduling tools.

At its core, CalendarHut’s web interface allows users to click, type in a name/optional description, and set a time. Very simple. In fact, this is essentially one of the only primary features directly available to users on CalendarHut’s main frontend, with the exception of the notification tab and user settings. This helps keep CalendarHut’s core capabilities highly intuitive and strightforward, while having agentic AI take care of the more complicated and messy functionality (more on that later).

As much as I tease Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, and similar services, the truth is that calendar applications can be made to be a lot more complex than most people would intuitively assume. Allowing for reminders to be shared with other users, building a system for regularly recurring reminders, and a multitude of other non-trivial features are largely at fault for the cluttered messes that are these modern calendar services.

AI Integration

CalendarHut has fully resolved the clutter issue by heavily integrating agentic AI into the system. While CalendarHut is the name for the core application, it also happens to be the name of the integrated AI agent/assistant, which I suppose may be a bit confusing, but coming up with one name was already too much effort so this was the best I could do.

The CalendarHut agent can do, well, a lot.

• It can create/rename/delete/essentially edit your own reminders in any way of your choosing. Just DM it on Discord or tell it on the site’s own chat interface to do so.
• It can share your reminders with other users.
• It can look up live flight information and update your reminders accordingly, in addition to doing general online research.
• It can check traffic conditions.
• It can DM you on Discord whenever a reminder goes off, and you can even respond back.
• It can set up highly complex recurring schedules (for instance, a university weekly class schedule).
• It can be your personal productivity coach, DMing you on Discord every now and then to help keep you on track for whatever task you’re currently doing.
• It can build you charts to showcase how you’re spending your time.
• It can write notes for specific dates (perhaps you want to mark a holiday schedule or someone’s birthday).
• You can request for it to give you regular morning briefings at a set time each morning (or a slightly varied time if you want to, don’t know why you would but you totally can).
• You can ask it to leave your feedback for me (bug reports, general issues, ideas, suggestions, or just general feedback).
• Essentially anything you can do on the site on your own, it’s able to do for you, and additionally it’s able to do a bunch more things that even you can’t do on your own.
• I’ll stop writing more things here because the list just goes on. If you’re curious as to what it can do, just ask it. The answer is a lot lol.

For users utilizing the Discord bot, the chats are live-synced between Discord and the site’s web chat interface, allowing for seemless continuity.

No, this isn’t an overdone AI gimmick in multi-trillion dollar AI-driven Silicon Valley in the status quo

Unfortunately, I’ve seen way too many awfully integrated “AI assistants” on modern websites. For instance, I still have no clue what the point of adding Microsoft Copilot to the Azure portal was, other than being an annoying intermediary step before I could finally reach support. It’s not like Copilot there could actually do anything either; it was just a regular chatbot. CalendarHut isn’t that. CalendarHut is truly heavily integrated into the product as a whole and can do essentially anything and everything (within reason) for you on your behalf.

Calendar and scheduling functionality

CalendarHut can set reminders in essentially any configuration you’d want. Reminders can also be set with unique time zones for both start and end times separately, making trip/travel reminder blocks far more intuitive and straightforward. You really don’t want to be met with a surprise at the airport when you realize your return flight home already left the day before. CalendarHut makes sure that doesn’t happen with designated travel reminders, and you can also get the CalendarHut AI agent to double check if your flight reminder times and dates are accurate to begin with. Or you can just get the agent to add the reminders for you to begin with, doesn’t really matter. Furthermore, CalendarHut supports leaving general notes on specific dates for, as some general examples, a holiday, birthday, etc.

Once again, the power of CalendarHut is in the combination of general simplicity and a much more complex backend with endless features that the CalendarHut AI agent takes care of on your behalf based on your requests. Want to make a simple one-off reminder? You can go to the site and add it yourself in two clicks, or DM CalendarHut on Discord to add it for you, or use the on-site chat interface with the exact same agent in the exact same synced cross-platform chat session. Want to add a super messy recurring daily class schedule? No problem, send CalendarHut an image of your general schedule and let it take care of the rest. It’ll also DM you on Discord whenever a reminder goes off, but you can also tell it to dismiss your reminders or stop DMing you entirely. The choice is yours. Want to change your primary time zone? You can change it yourself, or once again, ask CalendarHut to do it for you.

Productivity

Let CalendarHut know how much work you have, and then have it build a schedule for you. Let it know that you really like to procrastinate, and to check up on you in Discord DMs every now and then to make sure you’re still on task.

Ultimately, you can treat CalendarHut as a personal productivity coach or secretary of sorts. It’s designed with a highly capable harness that allows it to be more or less “aware” of the status quo. Get it to set an internal pomodoro timer and to manually ping you. Get it to tell you when it’s a good time to take a break, or when you should get back to work. Have it glaze you for personal encouragement, which is honestly a bit weird ngl but I mean if it works it works, you do you; I might personally judge, but CalendarHut certainly won’t lol.

Personal assistant

Originally, I really just wanted CalendarHut to be a calendar/scheduling/productivity-focused agent. However, I realized that I overengineered its harness so much that it might as well just double as a general personal AI assistant.

Want it to explain a topic, assist with work, or make something in html for you? It can do that. Want it to build a presentation for you? It can do that too. Want automatic morning briefings that give you weather reports, news, and traffic conditions for your commute? It’s able to do that as well. It can also access the internet, help you plan, teach you how to code, or pretty much anything in this regard. Want it to build a Minecraft clone for you? Actually that one it can’t do, but not because it physically can’t do it, but because it’s more so not really its purpose. It’s a scheduling/productivity agent first and a personal assistant second, but it’s not a long-horizon builder.

Think of CalendarHut as Alexa, except it’s actually good and smart and better and more capable in every way imaginable.

Why CalendarHut?

I felt that there’s a substantial lack of good offerings available in the schedule organization and productivity sphere at large. Apps frequently charge users ridiculous subscription pricing for what is essentially Notepad++ with a fancy UI. Sometimes they add a little AI support agent in the bottom right corner too, but the agent can really only answer super trivial questions like “oh yeah if you need support, you should probably look up the company’s support email” (thanks, I couldn’t figure that one out for myself). I’m a firm believer that CalendarHut is one of the only existing applications with true, competent, sensible, and capable AI integration—a rare app in the midst of an oversaturated status quo designed and engineered to be practical and useful.
